Whitney: Country Wrong

Whitney Duncan hails from the great state of Tennessee and is a country music singer who made the headlines recently when her cousin, Holly Bobo, was abducted from her home. I don't know all that much about the case and it really has nothing to do with Survivor so I'll leave it alone and approach Whitney purely from a game playing standpoint.

Like I said, Whitney is a country music singer which means if I was to ever shake her hand, I'd turn to dust and blow away. Country music is the devil's music. I stand by that. Whitney's inspirations in life are Jesus and Elvis and all I want to know is whether or not she has velvet paintings of both of them in her bathroom. Isn't that where country people put their velvet paintings? The bathroom? Let's check out her video:

No offense Whitney, but I would have no idea who you were if someone hadn't sent me a Facebook message asking, "Is that the same Whitney Duncan with the missing cousin?" Calling yourself a "star" is where you lost me. I think a few days on the island will cure you of that bravado.

I'm not writing her off yet. I'll put her on my wait and see list with that other chick whose name I forgot.

  1. OMG! If she is a 'star' with all those fans, why is she doing Survivor? Overall, her video turned me off, but it should be interesting to see how she does.

  3. First off...she is alright...and I have heard of her before...not by her music, but by the Holly Bobo case. Holly went missing from a town very very close to me so yeah..I have heard about it. This girl was on many of the local news channels asking for any help to find her cousin...it's a really sad story.

  5. I'll have you know that I'm actually more into hipster type music like Bon Iver and PJ Harvey.

I tire of constantly having to battle preconceived notions about me. It's people like you that make life difficult by jumping to conclusions and using easy cliches to characterise and mock...

    I'm going to my room.

  6. Yeah, the several mentions of her "fans" and that she's a "star" is somewhat off putting. Ten bucks says she's not on the island 2 days before she tells someone she's a "star".

This is just a career move for her. She's got no interest in getting to the end of the game. I'd say she'll be out within the first 2 weeks.

  7. Ha! She doesn't want to play the celebrity card. wow.

@Diabolical is right: not here to win, at all. I'm so tired of people who just want to be on TV.

I'm rootin for Nurse Jackie or JohnBoy--some real folks who aren't looking for a career as a 'celebrity'. ...I'm so excited to come and see Ms. Lala's first epi report!!!

  9. I'm a huge Whitney Duncan fan!!!!! I've been loving her music for about 3 years!! She's not just a country star, she's a songwriter. Not many people give credit to songwriters nor do people really pay attention to them, but she's amazing and has written so many songs for different mainstream artist! Do some research! She's written and cut songs with some legendary people.

  10. If you're gonna criticize someone, you should do a little research first. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but Whitney is not anything like you seem to think. She's one of the most genuine people I've ever met. Like the person above me said, she's not just an artist, she's a songwriter & a damn good one at that. I'll come back and see what's happening when she's still in it after 2 weeks :)

  12. Holy unicorns, Lala. Look at Country-Wrong's huge fan base! I can't wait for the music 'star' to become the subject of some well-earned ridicule. (What's the name of this blog again?) ...And THEN I can't wait for some whiny, inane posts from her minuscule group of anonymous super-fans (see the mini-handful of posts above.) What a load.

oh, and ps. I didn't want to get scolded by one of the anonymous superfans, so I DID do some research. (hello @anon11:34.) My conclusion: Whitney's music BLOWS. My other conclusion: I don't want to watch "Nashville Star"--ever. ...but Whit can still totally make a fan out of me if she PLAYS the almighty game of SuRvIvOr. ...We have yet to see...
